The American Heart Association just issued an advisory this week that replacing artery-clogging saturated fats with healthy vegetable fats can decrease risk of heart disease by as much as 30%. This is similar to the result as you can expect from taking a statin drug.
So if you want to decrease your risk of a heart disease, including heart attack, consider decreasing saturated fats (including meats and coconut oil) and add in more healthy vegetable oils like canola oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil and my ancestral favorite, olive oil.
